Honda & Acura Aftermarket Exhaust: How to Choose the Right System

Buying an aftermarket exhaust for your Honda or Acura is a significant investment. Here's how to make the right choice.

Function Werk has been engineering exhaust systems for Honda and Acura platforms since 2019. This guide covers everything you need to know before purchasing — from fitment verification to material selection to installation.

Step 1: Verify Fitment First

The most important factor in any exhaust purchase is fitment. A universal system may fit with modification, but a platform-specific system will bolt directly to your factory mounting points without cutting, welding, or adapters.

Function Werk builds every exhaust for a specific vehicle and engine combination. Our product titles include the exact year range, model, engine displacement, and trim level. If your vehicle is listed, the system will fit.

Step 2: Choose Your Material

304 Stainless Steel — The best choice for most owners. Excellent corrosion resistance, great sound, accessible price. This is what the majority of Function Werk customers choose.

Titanium — For owners who want the lightest, most exotic option. Significantly lighter than stainless, with a distinctive higher-pitched sound and natural heat coloring on the tips. Available for select platforms.

Step 3: Decide on Scope

A complete exhaust upgrade typically involves three components:

  • Sport Exhaust (Cat-Back): Replaces everything from the catalytic converter back. The most impactful upgrade for sound and appearance.
  • Front Pipe / A-Pipe: Replaces the section between the turbo/engine and the cat. Improves flow and throttle response.
  • Performance Pipe: Replaces the factory charge pipe (turbo models). Improves turbo response and airflow.

You can purchase any component individually or combine them for a complete system.

Step 4: Consider the Full Brake Upgrade

While you're upgrading your exhaust, consider completing the performance package with Function Werk brake components — stainless steel brake lines, 2-piece rotors, and high-performance brake pads are available for most platforms.
